How about some Sangria for this Cocktail Friday?

White Wine Kiwi-Apple Sangria

1 bottle of white wine – Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc are good choices
3 tablespoons of Triple Sec
1/2 cup fresh orange juice, strained several times to omit the pulp
1/4 cup simple syrup*
1 cup club soda
1 green apple, quartered sliced thin with skin on
1 lime, sliced thin
1 cup green, seedless grapes, sliced in half (1 additional cup of green grapes frozen)
2 kiwis, peeled and sliced thin
a couple sprigs of fresh thyme, and more for garnish

1. First, make your simple syrup by combining 1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Constantly stir over medium-high heat until mixture comes to a boil, and all the sugar dissolves. Lower the heat and stir mixture a few more seconds until it begins to thicken and become syrupy. Remove from heat and add the fresh thyme allowing it to steep in the syrup. When the syrup is cooled, remove the thyme and discard. While your preparing the sangria, place the syrup in the fridge to chill.
2. In a large pitcher, pour the white wine, the Triple Sec, the orange juice and the chilled simple syrup and stir. Add the apple, the lime, the grapes and the kiwi to the pitcher and place in the fridge to chill for a couple of hours.
3. Right before serving, add the club soda and stir. Garnish with a sprig of thyme if you like.
4. I slice up extra fruit to add to each glass of sangria.

Recipe and Photo from:

This starts with a great recipe from called Cucumber Limeade. What makes any virgin drink better?

GIN. By God, gin makes everything better.

I stopped by the grocery store to pick up the ingredients. DAMMIT! They were out of LIMES! Damn you, Food Lion. I’m an improvising mofo though… so this is what I did.

1 GIGANTIC cucumber (make sure you fondle it before putting it in to your grocery cart.)
1 can of Bacardi Frozen Margarita Mixer (in the freezer section, fondle that while you’re at it, too)
Tanqueray Gin

Peel and cut up your cucumber. Throw that in with the frozen mix and tangueray. Blend that shit and pour into a giant cup with a neon bendy straw.

I was too busy soaking up sun and gin to take a photo of this concoction, so this is a lovely picture from

I had an ingredient request for this Cocktail Friday: Vanilla Vodka! It does seem that the Vodka options are endless these days! I went on a hunt for Ashley and found this amazingly simple drink! It’s all over Pinterest… but I can’t seem to figure out where it originated. It also doesn’t seem to have exact recipe measurements … but … it sounds so good! I recommend winging it and giving this a try. I mean, who the hell doesn’t like apple pie?

The Incredible Hulk
As I stared off into internet space mumbling, ‘must find cocktail Friday drink…’, the beau mentioned this drink. I thought he was kidding, but I be damned… it does exist.

Let’s recover from the week after a holiday… with The Incredible Hulk!

Mix equal parts (2 ounces) of the fruit liqueur Hpnotiq and Hennessy brand cognac poured over ice.

There are two kinds of people in this world.

People who love gin and people who think you’ve just served them a drink made with turpentine.

To you wusses, I apologize now. This drink is perfect for kicking back on the front porch and watching the birds. (That’s how I relax, but I’m sure it can be applied however you like to do it.)

Here’s the link where I found this amazing #cocktail for this Friday.  I’ve been using blackberry jam, but plan on trying out the blueberry when this jar is empty (which should be soon at this rate.)

September 20th 2013

Chelsea recently posted this drink on her page. I love tequila and I love rosemary. #cocktail #friday

The Sueno is from Mostly Mostly Foodstuffsblog.

1 large sprig rosemary, plus more for garnish
6 thin slices cucumber
3/4 shot lime juice
1/2 shot simple syrup
2 shots tequila
tonic water

In a shaker or lidded jar, muddle together the rosemary, cucumber, lime juice and syrup, until the herb is well-bruised and the cucumber is a bit pulpy. Add the tequila and some ice, and shake well. Strain the drink into two glasses with plenty of ice, and top with a bit of tonic (about half a shot per glass, depending on your taste). Garnish with rosemary.

Check out the blog : Looks like a Peach Basil Sangria was also featured this month!

Tuscan Pear Cocktail – In honor of the book I’m currently reading:  Under The Tuscan Sun

For a fruity, refreshing lowball drink, the Tuscan Pear is a perfect choice. The pear-flavored vodka of Grey Goose (La Poire) pairs delightfully with the lemon liqueur lemoncello, ginger liqueur and orange juice. The mint leaves and pear garnish are a finishing touch that adds freshness and color that contrasts the bright yellow drink for a simple, elegant display.

  1. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all of the ingredients.
  2. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is frosted and beaded with sweat.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass rimmed with sugar and filled with crushed ice.
  4. Garnish with mint leaves and dried pears.

The weather has been cool and rainy the last few days here in Virginia. For this #cocktail Friday, I wanted a hot drink to warm me up. I picked one of my favorites, The Irish Coffee.

For months, I’ve been providing you with #cocktail after cocktail on Fridays. Well guess what? Today we are going to pay a little respect to the beverage that made me who I am. #Beer. Friends will agree, without beer I’d be nobody!I witnessed this at the Blarney Stone in Onancock, VA last year. You rim a beer glass with caramel, then a cinnamon brown sugar mix. Fill’er up with a seasonal pumpkin brew of your choice. MAGIC! My big brother Ernie will attest to this. He happened to stop by the day I shopped for these delightful beverages We had a kick-ass cinnamon-sugar-caramel-pumpkin glass after another. It’s fall, dammit. Have some fun with your beer.

Planning a trip to Vegas? Then you will be able to enjoy The Commonwealth’s ten dollar #cocktail of the month, You Bet Giraffes (I love a cocktail with a catchy name!). If not, then I have the ingredients list so you can enjoy at home. You Bet Giraffes is a mixture of Gin, Crème de Cocoa liqueur, Cocchi Americano and lemon juice. I cannot find an exact measurement, but my experience with gin is two ounces of gin and one ounce of everything else. (And yes, I understand that statement suggests that I’m a gin-a-holic).

Let’s celebrate #cocktail Friday with a hot toddy!

There’s one thing for certain here on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, most of us are sick of this snow. Bring on spring with its sunshine and flowers!

Until the seasons change, we might as well make do with what we got. My girl Ginnie got creative and made an adult snow cream. Her recipe goes likes this:
One part rum, one part leftover snow cream, a splash of French Vanilla creamer….Stirred, not shaken.

Do you have an adult snow cream you’ve been enjoying?
